Yeah, but assumedly Strauss would be removed, just like Jessie Liu was in DC, with a senate confirmation.
I am thinking they thought Berman would go quietly, and amidst the departure of Brian Bekaskwozki and Noel Francisco, no one would think much of it, but I think Berman has seen too much. If he thought it was legit, Berman would have stepped aside. He's not a political actor, certainly not a liberal activist, as he will be painted. He was part of the transition team, people referred to him as a Trump guy.
