it's early. all winners have higher ratings at the start, few can keep them over the course of the term. DOGE will overreach on things average people care about and then things will get spicy. how spicy depends on who can take leadership of the dems and how free they will be to do things their donors dont like.

I guarantee you most Trump ppl don't keep up with this day to day.

So Elon/doge doing what he's doing is probably not even known by most trumpers, or they just think he's doing it to help them

Wait. Does that rule apply in telling doctors how to provide healthcare to women?Asking for 165 million women and girls in America.

@Eetschrijver
@QasimRashid Maybe the fascist couch fukker should read up on his Montesquieu.

3/41
@MeerderWoerter@climatejustice.social
@QasimRashid I'd argue no because it is not within the same system, but another one. One thing is about which laws does a society have, the other one is about corruption and misuse of power

4/41
@MeerderWoerter@climatejustice.social
@QasimRashid *within the judicial system

5/41
@BagOfNails
@QasimRashid Vance's 3rd comment jumps off the page and slaps you right in the face. Meaning, the SCOTUS ruling on sKunk's immunity has opened America's version of a Russian Gulag cesspool.

6/41
@helava@mastodon.cloud
@QasimRashid Did JD Vance fail middle school social studies? Checks and balances doesn’t ring a bell, at all?He’s next in line when Fanta Fuhrer has too many cheezburgers???Jeebus.

7/41
@jimmydon68
@QasimRashid judges routinely determine abuse of discretion.

8/41
@VisualStuart@pdx.social
@QasimRashid This from The Man Who Would Be King.

9/41
@beckett@triangletoot.party
@QasimRashid That (JD) is a stinking heap of Orwellian doublespeak bullshyt. It is *exactly* the Judge’s job to tell the Executive the scope of its power.(Ed. to correct typos.)

10/41
@LPringnitz
Little Jimmy Vance is the king of liars. Don't trust a single word that comes from his deceitful mouth. Deceit--the action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth. Should have his picture inset next this in the dictionary!

11/41
@mls14@vivaldi.net
@QasimRashid His LEGITIMATE power? He does not have the legitimate power to shut down Congressionally-created agencies. He just doesn’t. He doesn’t have the power to do MOST of the things he’s trying now.Vance is complicit. Just as bad, if not worse, than Trump.

12/41
@tweetsjen@med-mastodon.com
@mls14 the problem is that many Americans don’t understand how their own government works. @QasimRashid

13/41
@prefec2@norden.social
@QasimRashid isn't it the job of the judiciary branch to control the executive branch?

14/41
@martinvermeer@fediscience.org
@prefec2 @QasimRashid Only to keep them within the straight and narrow of the law, just like the rest of us.

15/41
@midgephoto@photog.social
@QasimRashid Aaah, Vance thinks he has legitimate power.His boss does, but is I gather using power illegitimately.

16/41
@vida_latina@mastodon.world
@QasimRashid sophistry

17/41
@daedalean
@QasimRashid actually there are these war crime things and judges do tell generals they can’t do them.

18/41
@martinvermeer@fediscience.org
@daedalean @QasimRashid Same with prosecutorial discretion. It is broad and generally not open to judicial review (which is a problem in the current situation), but an AG can be impeached (good luck with that). And also, an AG is subject to ethics rules and can lose their law license - which would however require actual misconduct. Which is to be expected with this lot.

19/41
@0bm@social.twotenlabs.net
@QasimRashid Someone’s never heard of checks and balances….

20/41
@HarriettMB@beige.party
@QasimRashid Trying to take the US public and others to a position that neuters the power of the courts. Dangerous. #Coup #USpolitics #SCOTUS #VDVance

21/41
@ATLeagle@mastodon.online
@QasimRashid sheesh. Telling people what to do is not the same as finding something is outside the law. We shouldn't expect the cult to understand that, but it would be nice if they could become literate and see subtlety

22/41
@LivInTheLookingGlass@tech.lgbt
@QasimRashid And for every trans person in the country

23/41
@ThePolishDispatch@mstdn.social
@QasimRashid Except judges overruling science experts after Chevron Doctrine was trashed by SCOTUS.

24/41
@Lightfighter@infosec.exchange
@QasimRashid Seems he learned nothing during his time in the military.

25/41
@codinghorror@infosec.exchange
@QasimRashid I have some bad news for J.D. Vance and Emperor Palpatine

26/41
@amart@hachyderm.io
@QasimRashid It's clear that for Republicans, a judge's ruling is only illegal if it contradicts their point of view. If it reinforces their point of view it is 100% legal and must be obeyed. #fascism

27/41
@dxzdb
@amart @QasimRashid yeah total double standards. BTW: I think you meant legal.

28/41
@amart@hachyderm.io
@dxzdb fixed, thanks

29/41
@matthubble
@QasimRashid @codinghorror also, what about forgiving student loan debt?

30/41
@donw@mastodon.coffee
@QasimRashid @codinghorror Also, don’t judges often get final approval over plea deals? Meaning they DO get to have a say in prosecutorial discretion?

31/41
@average_peanut_butter_enjoyer
@QasimRashid Dude did this guy never learn about checks and balances? It absolutely is the job of the judicial and legislative branches to check his power

32/41
@FishNamedDog
@QasimRashid Depressing fact: In some states where abortion requires parental consent that can be bypassed by a judge, a girl can be found not mature enough to get an abortion, instead forcing her to carry the child to term.

33/41
@Sassinake
@QasimRashid no this is not a trade or profession challenge. this is a Class challenge. Rich people come from Heaven and have God's favor (obviously)So what they say, goes.

34/41
@diogenesdream
@QasimRashid if they’re so concerned about illegalities then why is the president giving executive orders blatantly contrary to the constitution. Why is a non-elected, non-Congressionally appointed individual from a non-Congressionally approved department allowed to access and shut down legitimate government agencies.

35/41
@dalfen@mstdn.social
@QasimRashid Right?!?And it’s very concerning that Vance is saying that. He reflects of all of their sentiment, and his post shows that they feel Executive power should go unchecked. They want to establish a ruling monarchy and Trump to be king.

36/41
@_KingSchultz_@masto.pt
@QasimRashid The absolute power takeover.... Star Wars had it right. The future will be USA, China and Russia (and Europe if they know how to play the game). Everyone else will be their slaves. Welcome to the new world

37/41
@yuhasz01
@QasimRashid VP Vance is an idiot. Judges only determine if an established law has been complied with, or violated.

38/41
@jagster@kvarkki.nexus
@QasimRashid @juuhaa Of course not, because of DOG!!! Wait… sorry, I hold my paper wrong — GOD!!!

39/41
@havvyhh2@mas.to
@QasimRashid ...MAGA-Republican skill...to advance some noxious, idiotic notion via logic, only to discover - amusement of a wide swath of Americans - that said logic leads to defeat of said idiotic notion + many other idiotic notions. We've seen plenty of examples of "not having thought through the consequences of our actions or words" in, well, just the past two weeks...but Reagan's trickle-down nonsense, Bush's Iraq debacle....they really have refined the art with trumpo-MAGA!

40/41
@Kierkegaanks@beige.party
@QasimRashid JD coming into the executive bransch like it’s a donut shop

@d_j_fitzgerald@bitbang.social
@QasimRashid for the love of God, use a CW if you are going to post screenshots of this gaping, hemmeroidal a$$hole. I did _not_ need to see that walleyed fukk of a human condom scroll past on my timeline.

@ProPublica@newsie.social
By giving Elon Musk’s engineers access to USAID’s entire digital network, including personal information for thousands of employees, the Trump administration may have violated the Privacy Act of 1974, three experts told ProPublica.In Breaking USAID, the Trump Administration May Have Broken the Law

@StephanieMoore@mastodon.online
@ProPublica being immune from prosecution and being allowed to do anything are, in theory anyway, two different things. We’ll see how courts decide. They may find it was illegal but Trump cannot be held liable.

3/15
@iowagneiss@mastodon.social
@StephanieMoore @ProPublica I think they said can't be prosecuted for an "official act." If that's the case, I'm curious whether deliberately ignoring law would be treated the same as following the law in good faith and having poor outcomes.

4/15
@DrGeof@mastodon.social
@ProPublica May...

@LoseFriendsandAlienatePeople@mastodon.social
@ProPublica We're a country of law and order, supposedly. Lawsuits, we need more lawsuits

6/15
@Beachbum@mastodon.sdf.org
@ProPublica Time for a class action lawsuit. Representative Jamie Raskin is working in it. He discussed it this morning on MSNBC. #class_action_lawsuits #ClassAction

7/15
@taatm@mathstodon.xyz
@ProPublica A more relevant question is ‘is the breach recognised by the authorities’.Norms are dead. We are beyond the law now. The only thing that matters is the interpretation of any of the law, and that is entirely political.

8/15
@jargoggles@kolektiva.social
@ProPublica He's been violating the emoluments clause since day 1 of his first term and hasn't faced any consequences for that whatsoever. We can't sit back and hope that the legal system will save us because it won't. We have to save ourselves.

9/15
@Doppelganger75@mastodon.world
@ProPublica Our corrupt Supreme Court majority has said Trump can do whatever he wants, meaning checks and balances are gone.

10/15
@EndicottAuthor@mastodon.social
@ProPublica I'm sure they did.

@TheNovemberMan@bookstodon.com

@Nienkez@mastodon.nl
@ProPublica And what is America doing about this? Because the law only works when you uphold it.

@Sassinake@mastodon.social
@ProPublica he did. who's gonna stop him? paper won't stop him.

@ProPublica Prosecute now before the law becomes the Republic Of Trumpistan!

Being a successful startup founder means being very good at fund raising. This means being good at stroking the egos of powerful people with lots of money and making fantastical promises that they can’t resist.Elon is good at it but Altman is better. How Sam Altman Sidestepped Elon Musk to Win Over Donald Trump

@carnage4life I'm gonna guess the "matches human intelligence" part depends entirely upon which group of people you are using to get the average."Mr. Altman told the president-elect that the tech industry would achieve artificial general intelligence — the hypothetical moment when technology matches human intelligence — during the Trump administration."
