I hadn't seen that but it's not at all surprising. As we've said before, the vast majority of government aid for farmers always goes to a very small slice of privileged American farmers, and almost none of them are Black.

It doesn't just hurt Black farmers either, most farmers of all races in America who truly need that help aren't getting it, while the farmers with wealth who don't need the help keep scoring it because they have the connections and the know-how to access the money and often the aid is even written into law with requirements that make it easier for them to get.

I think it's a positive move in isolation that will help many Black farmers. I don't think it's very relevant to any of the systemic issues in American farming that need to be solved with ongoing policy and not a one-off move meant to appease the political realities of the moment.
