I'm sorry, but Senate Dems are in a horrible spot.

The Republicans seem very willing to let a shutdown drag out, and if it goes past 30 days, the military stops getting paid.

Enough people have already lost their jobs, seen their subsidies disappear or have seen their 401Ks tank in the last month where it will be tough to spin this on Democrats. No one trusts the Republican Party, especially with Musk still on the loose. They’ll try and hide him more now, but the damage is done.

Hell, the DOE shutting down has raised the antennas of even some of the dumbest Trump supporters.

It’s time to dig in and have Democrats blast from the high hills how dangerous the bill is for all Americans. This is an opportunity to control messaging for once.

No one will care by November 2026 , back pay them like they usually do. They can do a short 30 day cr and work out a bipartisanship bill

Yeah I’m not sure you can count on full backpay or any the way Trump-Musk have their way.

They’ll get a 10 point questionnaire explaining they need to say what they would have been doing during the shutdown or not get paid

They will have to.

I doubt the Republicans will change the bill.

That’s the problem with being in a spiral with a death cult. They have no incentive to turn around
No they don't let republicans own their shutdown then they have all 3 branches . You don't sign a poison pill bill just to be nice

But to what end?

This isn’t a normal Republican shutdown over doggy math for tax cuts.

They already want to cut the federal workforce in mass. They have no incentive to reopen it quickly. Trump will just offer desperate workers a buyout.

I think if they shut it down they better be in front of the cameras 24/7 because Americans are dumb and will believe whatever they are told first. The fact that republicans hold every branch should be simple enough to convince people, the GOP has a harder time convincing the average dolt it’s the dems fault if they have no “power”.

Agreed. We are facing a continued crisis of rising autocracy/oligarchy and an ill equipped opposition.

Democratic leadership is not equipped to meet this moment and they are feckless. Neither Schumer nor Hakeem Jeffries have the urgency nor ability to communicate that will meet this moment.

Democrats do not have the messaging to justify shutting the government down and so would likely get blamed. We can blame the electorate all we want for being ignorant and uninformed(I certainly do), but the politicians need to politick.

Every democrat who supports this bill should be primaried, zero reason any one in our parties representative should be supporting such a bill. Their should be calls and push back to have Fetterman challenged in his next primary, he's out here openly advocating for this bill shytting on democrats because he's concerned about israels defense funding.
