Elon Musk: 1 Million Dogecoin For Proof of Emerald Mine | Entrepreneur

Elon Musk Says He'll Pay 1 Million Dogecoin to Anyone Who Can Prove a Particular Rumor About Him Is True

Elon Musk is at it again, promoting Dogecoin via Twitter, even though his legal team is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit against the billionaire that accuses him of using his influence to raise and drop the valuation of the cryptocurrency for his own gain.

But this time, Musk is offering to give the coin away — and one million of them. But of course, this doesn't come without personal gain.

There have been longstanding reports from outlets such as The New Yorker that Musk's father, Errol Musk, purchased shares in an emerald mine in South Africa when Elon was a child.

In a 2018 interview with Insider, Errol Musk stated that he owned a 50% share of a Zambian emerald mine, and the stones that churned out of it landed the family with "so much money at times we couldn't even close our safe."

Errol's son Elon, however, is adamant that these claims are false and is now offering to pay anyone who can provide proof.

"Elon Musk never owned an emerald mine," An Elon and Dogecoin fan Twitter account wrote. "An open offer of 69.420 Doge to all the media outlets who are publishing false information. Send me proof of its existence & take your doge."

Musk chimed in, natually, offering 1 million in Dogecoin to anyone who could find proof.

Dude is an insecure insufferable Afrikkkaner :mjlol:

Minnesota Public Radio to quit Twitter

The move comes after National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System both announced plans to leave the controversial social media site.

Minnesota Public Radio has joined the growing number of public radio stations that are quitting Twitter.

The departures come after the social media platform labeled National Public Radio as "state-affiliated media," and later amended it to "government-funded media."

"After much discussion, we concluded that continued use of the social media platform Twitter by our organization was contrary to our mission and core values," Jean Taylor, CEO of MPR's parent company, American Public Media Group, wrote in an email sent to members on Friday evening. "Instead of being a neutral and efficient channel for serving the public, Twitter is now actively aiming to undermine the integrity of public media organizations like ours."

She added that the labels Twitter used to describe NPR inaccurately describes what public media is and does.

"That inaccuracy undermines the value of what our employees do for people and their families: providing accurate, unbiased journalism and information about our state, our country and the world."

All of American Public Media's channels will stop posting and engaging on Twitter, effective immediately, she said. But she added that winding down use of the platform will take several weeks due to some of its contractual obligations.

On Friday evening, the @MPRNews account on Twitter posted a series of tweets, noting that MPR News is an "independent nonprofit news organization in service to the public" and pointing to other ways people can find its work, such as by downloading its app, subscribing to its newsletters and following it on other social media platforms.

NPR and the Public Broadcasting Service, which was also labeled by Twitter as "government-funded media," announced last week they would stop posting on Twitter.

NPR executives have noted it's a nonprofit group with editorial independence and receives only a very small fraction of its funding from government sources.

The exit by public broadcasting stations is only the latest controversy to befall Twitter since billionaire Elon Musk bought the site last year.

Twitter puts 'government-funded media' tag on CBC account

Label the latest move by Twitter to stamp public broadcasters with designations

Twitter has put a "government-funded media" label on CBC's account in what is the latest move by the social media company to stamp public broadcasters with designations.

"Government-funded media is defined as outlets where the government provides some or all of the outlet's funding and may have varying degrees of government involvement over editorial content," according to Twitter.

National Public Radio in the U.S. announced earlier this month that it is leaving the platform after Twitter labelled its account as "state-affiliated media," saying that doing so undermines their credibility by "falsely implying that we are not editorially independent."

U.S. public broadcaster PBS followed suit, also leaving Twitter after it received the "government-funded" stamp.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre recently called on Twitter CEO Elon Musk to add a "government-funded" label to accounts that promote "news-related" content from CBC.

Reacting to the label being implemented on Sunday, Poilievre tweeted that the CBC has been "officially exposed" as "Trudeau propaganda, not news."

The CBC is a Crown corporation, wholly owned by the state but operated at arm's length from government.

CBC News is governed by policies laid out in its Journalistic Standards and Practices, which states, "We are independent of all lobbies and of all political and economic influence... Public interest guides all our decisions."

In a statement Sunday night, CBC corporate spokesperson Leon Mar emphasized the government does not influence CBC's editorial content.

"Twitter's own policy defines government-funded media as cases where the government 'may have varying degrees of government involvement over editorial content,' which is clearly not the case with CBC/Radio-Canada," Mar said.

"CBC/Radio-Canada is publicly funded through a parliamentary appropriation that is voted upon by all Members of Parliament. Its editorial independence is protected in law in the Broadcasting Act."

In its 2021-2022 annual report, the CBC reported government funding of $1.24 billion. It also reported $651 million in revenue, largely from advertising during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games, which were held in the same fiscal year, and stronger demand for television advertising than the previous year. In the fiscal year 2020-2021, CBC reported $1.39 billion in government funding and $504 million in revenue.

Australia's ABC News said Monday it had received a new label on Twitter, branding the broadcaster as "Government-funded media." An ABC spokesperson said the news organization was "liaising with Twitter regarding the change."

Last week, Twitter changed a label on the main account of the BBC, the U.K.'s public broadcaster, to "government funded media."

The BBC disputed the change, saying it "is, and always has been, independent. We are funded by the British public through the licence fee."

In response, Twitter altered the label to "publicly-funded media." In an interview with a BBC reporter, Musk said, "If we use the same words that the BBC uses to describe itself, that presumably would be OK… That seems to pass a reasonable test."

the people calling for the defunding of the CBC are short-sighted.. CBC promotes canadian culture and artists of all types. it's similar to the BBC. with canada's small population, american culture will dominate them even more. a ton of canadian shows are basically in some fictional american town/city.

Mandate[edit]

The 1991 Broadcasting Act[53] states that:[54]

... the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as the national public broadcaster, should provide radio and television services incorporating a wide range of programming that informs, enlightens and entertains;
... the programming provided by the Corporation should:
  • be predominantly and distinctively Canadian,
  • reflect Canada and its regions to national and regional audiences, while serving the special needs of those regions,
  • actively contribute to the flow and exchange of cultural expression,
  • be in English and in French, reflecting the different needs and circumstances of each official language community, including the particular needs and circumstances of English and French linguistic minorities,
  • strive to be of equivalent quality in English and French,
  • contribute to shared national consciousness and identity,
  • be made available throughout Canada by the most appropriate and efficient means and as resources become available for the purpose, and
  • reflect the multicultural and multiracial nature of Canada.

canadian for-profit media companies don't have to do any of that.
