Doja Cat Addresses Losing Verification on Twitter, Says Blue Checks Are for ‘Desperate’ People

Doja Cat is no longer verified on Twitter.

The 27-year-old artist took to the social media platform on Tuesday, writing, “only fans have blue ticks,” in response to a fan who wrote, “no blue tick? it’s over.”

Another fan responded, tweeting, “You have to pay for twitter blue now ? What has elon done to you doja ?” to which she responded, “Having a blue tick now means theres a higher chance that you’re a complete loser and that you’re desperate for validation from famous people.”

In order to maintain a blue check, users have to pay for Twitter Blue, a subscription service that costs $8 per month or $84 per year. Doja’s unverified status comes a few months after she went on a rant on Twitter about the verified program. The subscription was initially priced at $20 per month until Elon Musk suggested a lower fee due to backlash."

Most celebrities will pay because it's like a drug to them. Social media is like a drug to some of these people

Your statement has one big hole that's not accounting for, Verification.

Doja Cat is now without a checkmark. If Doja Cat buys it, that doesn't mean they are verified, but they just subscribe. Anyone now can be Doja Cat, and if Twitter enables people to use a celebrities NIL for profit, then it pays to deplatform as you can sue Twitter in saying your not on Twitter and people are profiting from you without proper compensation.

If you look in the Stadium of the Coli, once in a while you will get a person who will get a Instagram story from (at)NBAonEPSN or some other fake outlet.

Its hard to justify being known figure on Twitter when you know the verification is gone.

The subscription angle could be solved by idnow etc, but that would require more overhead and would also likely lower subscription count. It was so be seen as redundant by folks who have already been verified.

But verification isn't the purpose of twitter blue so none of that actually matters. :mjlol:

Meh, this remains to be seen since a lot of celebrities don't run their social media own accounts anyway and do more posting under burner accounts. It will be interesting to see where the PR, Labels, Agencies, etc. land on whether they're going to pay to play for their clients.

An easy solution to the verification problem would be to cross post between twitter and other social platforms where the individual is already verified. That way if you don't see the same post or a repost of that tweet on another platform, you know it's not legit.

Many advertisers paused work with Twitter over concerns about Musk’s approach to content and moderation, after his takeover last autumn.

But Musk insists that advertising has picked up again, telling the BBC:

“I think almost all of them [who left] have either come back or said they were going to come back. There’s very few exceptions.

“Depending on how things go, if current trends continue, we could be… cash flow positive this quarter if things keep going well.”

Twitter’s role is to be a realtime “immediate source of truth that you can count on”, Elon Musk said, and one that gets more accurate with time as people comment on particular things.

“If Twitter is the best source of truth, we will succeed”, Musk told the BBC. But “if we are not the best source of truth, we will fail”.

Musk says he wouldn’t take $44bn for Twitter if someone came in and offered his purchase price today. But he then indicated that it depends on who it was.

Musk said:

If I was confident that they would rigorously pursue the truth then I guess I would be glad to hand it off to someone else.
Musk, the world’s second richest man, insisted “I don’t care about the money, really”.

But he did seem briefly flummoxed at the suggestion that, if money wasn’t actually important, he could hand Twitter to someone else who could do a good job of running it.
