You got Saba, earth gang, earl sweatshirt, Tyler the creator, Childish gambino, Kyle, I can keep going on but to say all artist sound the same is very disingenuous cracker. Just say you don’t look hard enough, or don’t like hip hop

I never said all artists sound the same. Re-read my post, then get back to me.

And half your list ain't new rappers, or gen Z.

Tyler will be 30 this year. Earth Gang is in their 30's. Childish Gambino is damn near 40. :mjlol:

Gen Z is mid to late 90's.
How are you cats arguing over this, and don't even know who Gen Z is? :gucci:

Hip hop as a whole is the most diverse it's ever been. The problem is most of the hip hop that's heavily broadcasted in the mainstream isn't the best the genre has to offer

There's alot of great MCs in the game that are pushing the genre forward. MCs that are finding and using fresh innovative flows, rapping about wide ranging content, have actual content in their music, rapping over great instrumentals, rapping over live instrumentation and making quality bodies of work. They just don't get the attention that the DaBabys and NBA Youngboys get nowadays. You have to look for them

If you're an old head and you feel like hip hop these days is irredeemable, check out these artists

Mick Jenkins
Tobe Nwigwe
Saba
Nick Grant
JID
Isaiah Rashad
Westside Boogie
Earthgang
Cordae
Rapsody
Che Noir
Oddisee
IDK
Joey Bada$$
CHIKA
Deante Hitchcock
Denzel Curry
KOTA the Friend
Smino
Duke Duece
Anoyd
Boldy James
Kenny Mason
Tierra Whack

These are only a few of the younger generation rappers that are pushing the culture forward in their own way and there's so many more. You just have to look. There's something out there for everyone

This is what I came in to say, repped

No disrespect to you, but less is more and I’m not gonna read any long drawn out posts. Either make concise, clear arguments or I’m only going to read the gist your (not really directed at you per say) long posts aren’t some high quality level of posting that demands all that attention. However if you would like to move goal posts and speak on Gen Z artists then we got baby Keem, Yung lean, and Kodak black. This is very unfair and limited because Gen Z is very young so to put this pressure on them to cater to all kinds of audiences is asinine. Gen X babies weren’t popping in the 80s and millennials really only got things popping the last 6 years or so. I’m talking about modern hip hop music and the audience (Gen Z) who largely listens to it. Arguing about variety in culture from one of the youngest current generation is not a great argument at all. We’re talking current state of music not what age group is making it. At least I am

The fact that with all the shyt that went down this summer, the music doesn't reflect it is telling. All we got was a half assed Lil Baby song and WAP. Ain't a soldier amongst this new breed

Streaming killed music. People are just pumping out music. No more does it take a year to 2 years for a new track. People are releasing B side as singles now

The only thing that you can give this generation credit for is further advancing the genre globally, and culturally.

They killed the baggy cloths era to the point you can’t even cop baggy cloths in the latest styles.

they also innovated how their content is consumed by taking advantage of new/current technologies.

Dip set did that

This is cap. This year and over the past few years a lot of rappers have dropped songs about what’s going on.

It's not moving the goal post, the thread title says Gen Z.

And this isn't an argument I'm personally making. The thread title says "Gen Z claims hip-hop is progressing". There's a burden associated with making claims like that.

Ok cool, he didn't mention any of those artists. And half the artists he mentioned are not from Gen Z.

And we aren't even talking about the same thing. You cats keep pointing out how diverse these new rappers are....cool....point out where I said they wasn't.

I specifically said:

And for the record I don't think all rappers sound the same now.

Fred.

My main beef with the posts I quoted was saying shyt is more diverse now, than it was back then. Which is lunacy. Although @Apprentice cleared up what he meant.

The sole reason shyt seems more versatile now is, due to the internet, you can find literally anything you want. I mean....you can look at midget porn one minute then read about astrophysics the next. That don't mean you would normally encounter either of those things on a daily basis.
