Years later the shyt made more sense to me than anything else after reading about the 10,000 hour rule.

pops was also a marine in Vietnam...and use to always tell me "never go on a trip alone, because you always need someone left to tell the story." that was the rule of thumb in his platoon when he was up in them jungles.

My dad was never one to drop eloquent one-liners, but one day I was complaining about being skinnier than all the other girls, he looked me in the eye. I thought he was going to say something like "You're the most beautiful girl in the world to me."

Good thread, meant to get to this one earlier.....

My Dad always stressed to us that mastery of the spoken and written word is what will get you over on these CACs. He used to encourage us to look stuff up for ourselves instead of giving us the answer, stressed self-sufficiency and family unity as being paramount.....but yeah, he always said that complete mastery of the English language would take us far....and it has.

It's a big part of why I chose the scholarly route and became a lawyer.
