Cliff Bleszinski, the creator behind the Gears of War series, has suggested the games get a God of War-style reboot. Oh, and that Xbox just needs to give him a call.

Speaking with Comic Book about his upcoming comic Scrapper, conversation turned to the shooter series. Bleszinski said he could consult on any ideas Microsoft may have for the series, and suggested it could get a "little bit of a reboot, like God of War" had in 2018.

"I've always said, Phil Spencer has my number," he told the publication. "I'm happy to consult. Gears will always be near and dear to my heart."

Would you want Cliffy B to be brought back to reboot the series?

i definitely think it would be a genius move for Microsoft to bring back one of the OG’s, the same way Santa Monica did with Cory Barlog

A God of War style reboot? The fukk does that even mean!?!

Gears was already a heavy melodramatic narrative.. Cliff coming back could unite the coalition’s sorry asses under one banner but he needs someone there like Rod to keep him in check.

Not like god of war gameplay wise, they mean in terms of a radical shift. They could have said BoTW also but GOW is probably more similar to GOW

Gears hasn’t really changed much from 1-5.

tbh, giving it some narrative weight would be helpful.

Pull out a lot of the bro energy that's permeated the whole series, and drag it down to earth. Give mans a lancer for 80% of the game, make it a big deal when a new enemy type pops up, and make the viscera less for shock-and-awe and more heavy. First time a locust gets run through or cut in half needs to be a moment.

vibe of the series should have shifted when they saw the reaction people had to that trailer they did to Mad World, because when they got the game it wasn't nearly as haunting. And if it had been, I think the series would have had more staying power.

Gears spent it's whole time being a muscle-bro power fantasy when there was so much more pathos to mine them being 'cogs of war': disposable pieces barely worth the armor they're given, up against insurmountable odds and shat on even when they manage to pull off a miracle.

the first orbital strike shoulda had the same vibe as the white phospherous scene from Spec Ops: The Line, instead of coming off like a Michael Bay movie.

They should go straight up war-horror themed. Solo, fukk co-op. Like you said make the lancer a big deal to pay homage to the series, maybe the lead character a non-soldier.

I think the “yo bro” stuff the series rode on is kind of outdated. God of War did well because it shed a lot of that edge-lord stuff

Breh where were you for gears 1 - 3? It had a great narrative for those games that was down to earth with great set pieces and enemies. Skorge, Raam, & Myrrah were all great antagonists. It had pathos, but I don’t need Gears to be some depressive ass Quantic Dream. Let a game just be a game.

Fuuuuuuu No. Gears MP is a core of the franchise, if The Coalition didn’t ruin the meta with split tuning and constant meta changes Gears would’ve been a solid mid to upper tier competitive.

They did the war horror in 4 and dropped the dude bro stuff, and it’s the second worst in the franchise.
