Gabby stays obese because (drum roll please) it gets her roles (no pun intended). I think gabby is probably one of the most recognizable and valued black actresses right now. Gabby gets GREAT roles, the kind most black actresses dream of getting. This sucks because what Hollywood wants is fat young black women ( name a top black actress under 30). It could be an agenda, but I can guarantee you that if Gabby lost her selling point (her weight) she would not be working as much.
