I feel like the problem with Kingdom Come (other than the imo bad songs other than 6 of them and beats overpowering the lyrics) was that Jay was trying to prove how grown up he was way too hard, honestly Kingdom Come (the song) is such an embarrassing song because of that.
But after listening to MCHG yesterday I feel like he captured what he wanted to so much better, the songs were good, didnt let the beats take him over, a1 lyrics, and despite what people say about jay's subject matter/passion I feel the inspiration/drive on the project.
People say Jay Z needs to make a Life Is Good, but whatever that is for Jay I feel like MCHG is it, some of BP3/Kingdom Come as well but not done as well as MCHG.
Great album, probably going up in my ranking.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high

KC did have really good lyrics. The problem was the production and maybe the content. I haven't gone back to relisten in a while but the beats were definitely wack.

Also, Show Me What You Got and 30 Something were terrible beats. D U Wanna Ride is a good song with average production. I dunno wtf Beach Chair is supposed to be with that beat.

The beats for that just had me guessin

He was talking, I thought, about MCHG, which was Jay's worst album lyrically.

:what:

SMWYG beat was wavy as fukk. That's one of the 3 dopest beats on KC.

You picked the 3 best songs that saved that album from being straight garbage as evidence of what was wrong?

I agree about Show Me, but Do You Wanna Ride and Beach Chair were straight :russell:
He went and got the wrong Christopher Martin to produce on the album :martin:

Won't lie, thought this thread would be more popular. Looks like jay not really leading the culture anymore. Could care less, still one of my favorites ever. And at his best probably my favorite ever.

PS how many great songs dies jay have? And is it the most in rap history?

nikkas really defending KC? :mjlol:

I fukk with Jay but his last three solo albums been average to trash

KC's production was trash, imo. He was on point lyrically, though.

OMG, KC, Lost One, Do U Wanna Ride, Hollywood were all really good lyrically.

American Gangster is a great album all around. Can't shyt on anything about it.

BP3 is good too. What We Talkin About, DOA, Run This Town, Empire State of Mind, Real as It Gets, On 2 Da Next One, A Star is Born, Already Home, Younrg Forber...:whew:

That shyt was actually a fire ass album now that I look back.

MCHG was cool for that moment in time. It also ushered in #NewRules and had a couple songs that really knocked. Somewhereinamerica, Part II with Beyonce, fukkwitmeyouknowigotit, Crown...

Hova still the GOAT of this rap shyt.:obama:

I think it has good lyricism :manny:
Just not the kind people are used to.
There wasn't a single verse on that album where I thought "Jay went off on that one" :wow:
Every album before that, good or bad, there were verses where you were left with no choice but to acknowledge the greatness.
