The picture of Benny that Darius looked at was an actual picture of Michael Jackson with Chuck Berry. It just had Bennys face instead of Michael's. That episode had a lot to do with MJ...the abuse, the overbearing father, the seclusion, Teddy going from black skinned to white, even the soft voice and the odd behavior from Teddy. I liked how it was done....

Let me rephrase that, MJ obviously inspires the role but I feel the message is much bigger than he. Like if you focus too much on MJ himself you can miss parts of the story.

Yep. There were more Orince references as well. MJ didn’t play piano, Prince did. MJs home wasn’t turned into a museum by his family after death but Princes’ was.
This episode included many more references than MJ.


The show really wasn’t about MJ, imo.
Also MJ has a skin disease. It was confirmed by his autopsy.

I agree that this was about Michael Jackson, however in the trophy case in the gift shop there were 3 Academy Awards so it could’ve had some Prince influence. I don’t believe Michael ever won an Oscar.

the trailer for champagne papi looks like it could be pure gold or straight trash. this is definitely one of my favorite shows ever but i might lower my expectations for this one. i don't really like the episodes that center around Van. hopefully it's more ensemble.

Yeah the MJ/Prince/Marvin was kinda obvious but it be a reach but me and my boys also spotted some Elvis in there:
-the Museum (Graceland)
-the memorabilia; swap the piano for a guitar
-Elvis had a twin brother that "died at birth"; conspiracy theorists always speculate that one or the other is still alive
-MJ and Elvis only met one time, on an elevator in Vegas after a Jackson 5 performance that Elvis took Lisa Marie to
-The obvious one, Elvis was a thief; Robbin' Season
-there's no connection that I can think of but Elvis first popped into my head when we saw Teddy's car blocking Darius end, that car just made me think of Elvis for some reason

I gotta tip my hat to many of yall with yall tin foil hats taking all these notes from multiple rewatches searching for every little easter egg and subliminal.


I just watch this shyt off the strength of entertainment purposes and dont take it too deeply. To me, its a television show, not a puzzle
