Alaw firm that has represented Donald Trump in various cases since 2014 has decided to quit representing the former president's campaign in the face of a lawsuit brought by a former employee who was impregnated by a top aide to the Republican candidate, The New York Times reported.

In a court filing last week, LaRocca, Hornik, Greenberg, Rosen, Kittridge, and McPartland said it wished to quit representing the campaign in the case brought by A.J. Delgado, a former writer for the National Review who worked on Trump's 2016 campaign.

Jason Miller, a communications staffer for Trump, cheated on his wife with Delgado during the campaign; she alleges he cut off contact after she became pregnant and that the campaign likewise "immediately and inexplicably" shut her out. Her lawsuit charges that this constitutes discrimination based on her sex and pregnancy.

In explaining its decision to quit representing the campaign, Trump's long-time lawyers cited an "irreparable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship," the Times reported. That came after a federal court ruled that the campaign must turn over documents related to discrimination and harassment claims its received.

In her own filing, Delgado alleges that the firm's attempt to withdrawal from the case may be part of an effort to deny compliance with that ruling.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), the day after he attended part of Donald Trump’s criminal hush-money trial in New York—later doubting jurors’ citizenship and complaining about how the indicted former president is enduring “mental anguish” in the “depressing” courtroom—admitted Tuesday that “one of the reasons” for his appearance and comments was “to overcome this gag order” imposed on Trump.

Tuberville was joined by Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who criticized Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter—something that the gag order prohibits Trump himself from doing. He is also prohibited from directing others to speak about witnesses and the jury, among others. On Tuesday, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum made similar comments to Vance, and when asked later on CNN if Trump had told him to speak about Merchan’s daughter, he said he had not.

Tuberville did not return a request for comment to The Daily Beast by the time of publication as to whether Trump had asked him to appear in court and speak to reporters afterward. But what Tuberville did say on Newsmax about Trump was nevertheless revealing.

“Hopefully we’ll have more and more senators and congressmen go up every day to represent him and be able to go out and overcome this gag order, and that’s one of the reasons we went—is to be able to speak our piece for President Trump,” the senator said on the Chris Salcedo Show.

Salcedo approved.

“Well that’s good. You know, if he can’t speak on the sham this trial is, they can’t put you under a gag order—not yet, the way things are going,” he said.

Earlier this month, Trump was fined $9,000 for nine violations of the gag order after it was determined that he intimidated jurors and witnesses. Merchan has since warned him that jail is a very real possibility if he keeps it up.

Tuberville’s televised comments about the trial aren’t the only ones that have sparked interest regarding any potential workarounds by Trump. Trump “legal spokesperson” Alina Habba said on Fox News last week, for instance, that Stormy Daniels was “not credible” as a witness.

Donald Trump is no longer attending his hush money trial alone, now enjoying a growing crew of GOP hanger-ons who are helping him circumvent his gag order by acting as " surrogates" outside the courthouse. As Alternet notes, Trump's entourage may be pleasing to the former president, but it's now annoying Judge Juan Merchan.

CNN's Kaitlan Collins reported that Merchan was "visibly annoyed" by Trump's support group, which he appeared to view as disruptive to the proceedings. "This judge does not give away much," she told Wolf Blitzer. "He has a very even tone. He greets Donald Trump with a 'Good morning, Mr. Trump' every single day that he walks inside the courtroom… but there was this moment where it was five or six people from Trump's team, and they get into the second row of the entire courtroom to sit in the pews, to listen to what's happening. And the judge stared straight at them as they were walking in."

The group of elected politicians, aides, and party officials have greeted Trump each morning, sat behind him during the trial proceedings, and given press conferences in which they have condemned the whole affair as political persecution. They have also attacked witnesses, the judge and his family.

Many of the trial attendees, including Ohio senator J.D. Vance, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramswamy, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, are believed to be auditioning to be Trump's running mate. Others, like Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Florida Sen. Rick Scott seem content to demonstrate their fealty. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has relied on Trump's backing to remain in power, joined the group on Tuesday, calling the trial a "sham" and "disgrace."

So far, their presence has been useful to Trump. While the former president seethes under a gag order that blocks him from threatening jurors, witnesses, prosecutors, and court staff, his loyal retainers have expressed his thoughts for him. Tuberville made his intentions clear in an interview with Newsmax, a right-wing network. "Hopefully we'll have more and more senators and congressmen go up every day and represent him," Tuberville said. "And be able to go out and overcome this gag order. That's one of the reasons we went, to be able to speak our piece for President Trump."
