The soldiers get money, whether legitimate or illegitimate, they give a nice percentage of it to their direct superior (crew leader) who then gives a nice percentage of that to the Head (gang leader). Any non-gang affiliates and friends who use the gang's name in order to setup shop or gain influence have to pay to do that (Chris Brown/Soulja Boy, for example). Point is, money is coming in hand over fist in an organized gang, why even be in a gang if it's not bringing in money? Just cause you're living in a specific neighborhood?
