Wait can someone explain why he didn't come up earlier? He looks experienced and surrounded by other experienced swimmers in a pool... I don't get it

he basically just held his breath too long.....

thought he was going to be able to get up to take another breath...

and passed out before he left the water....

these people practice controlling their breathing...

to the point they can blackout just by holding their breath
