I don’t like giving a definitive verdict on an album off the first listen but this already sounds like the AOTY for me. The production on Scottie Beam & Look At Me had me like :mindblown::ohlawd:

Been a fan since his .38 feature and he hasn’t let me down since

I’ve loved his other albums and yo, it’s time to start putting Freddie in that top tier. He makes great albums, lyrics, flows, schemes, cadences.

Collabs on point, especially Ross, Benny and Conway on some ol

sequencing and engineering is great

Honestly the only critique of the project I got on first listen is that Gibbs can be a little too one-note with his content at times... I wish there was a concept record or two on here to switch it up even though that's never really been Gibbs' wheelhouse. With the caliber of production he's getting blessed with though, I think he could stand to reach a little more out of his comfort zone with his songwriting formula.

Vocally he sounded more awake over this production than on Bandana, Alc complemented his vocal tone and everything perfectly. The features on here were GREAT, much better feature verses than what he got on Bandana in general.

This is a very strong project. As a rapper though Gibbs has been coasting with his craft for years now - frankly, he hit his songwriting peak on Shadow of a Doubt imo. He had a rawness on that project he was able to interweave with a diversity of deliveries that he hasn't really tapped into on subsequent projects. I haven't heard that raw passion/hunger he had on tracks like "Freddy Gordy" once on any of his projects since SOAD, he's also shied away from flipping melody into his bridges & verses like he did effortlessly on "Careless". Vocally he carried the fukk outta that record in a way very reminiscent of Z-Ro in a good way...

His recent projects have become a lot more predictable (and less impassioned) vocally and I think he's short-selling one of his strengths as a rapper. His bars have never been the main attraction imo even though he did step his bars up on Bandana. At the same time though, if he keeps finding production as great as Alc's I can't really complain.

On the coli yes and from real heads but IDK he needs more his work is incredible his consistency is INCREDIBLE

I’m an Alc-head, but he doesn’t make a lot of mainstream music :yeshrug: and I got no issue with that. Like you said real ones know, and that’s what matters most. Basically the exact same thing as Madlib

edit: @Youseenmywork beat me to it :russ:
