Even As a brehette, I’m not one for just “accepting” whatever they hand down to us in the form of “entertainment”- Fred Hampton’s life wasn’t a movie- he lived this, he died for this. For some Hollywood exec to tell us that a black American man wasn’t “good enough” is essentially what they keep doing to. So for various outsiders to dictate what his story is and who should “play” him while they look down at those actually putting work in, deep in the struggle - I’m not with it.

That’s why it’s vital to know your history and thinking critically about it. When you consume art or any cultural expression it’s just as important to note what ideas the storyteller is conveying as it is to note the story/subject of the story itself.
