they need to keep delaying it until idris accepts the role

just make as some sort of foreign exchange of cops and there you go

If they were smart....which they obviously aren't....they should make this last season of "Luther" in the UK have him transferred to the U.S. for some reason....and then start the "remake".

Anyway, as you say, they should have a follow up of the UK version with Idris transferring to the US somehow instead of "remaking" it. That would be clever.

I think him using his real English accent would be an issue. He couldn't just start having an American accent, but he might be able to do one of those fake English accents that Americans like to hear.

No bc british shows are usually too short and Americans like milking that advertisers money.

They announced an HBO remake of "Utopia" directly after the first season ended in the UK. HBO doesn't have ads. For the most part Americans aren't checking for anything foreign, even if it's already in English....and especially if it's not in English.
