From a cursory glance at his other work he wrote a thesis on race and Animal Crossing.
'Thesis'
I actually went back to read that article and I remember it was a tumblr post, what's so different about this article in a journal format and the discourse around race and character creators in Fromsoft games? He did something different and wrote about it from an emotional perspective, what's so wrong about that? I remember fiddling with the ME2 character creator when I was a kid and the impact it had on my experience to be able to play as a Black spectre. You wrote 'Race and Animal Crossing' like it's some political thing the title is 'Me, On The Screen', people have written entire books on this concept.
He thinks the dialogue is post cringe I dont think its that bad so far. Could it get worse? Certainly. But as of now Im not seeing what the issue is and I have a very short leash for bad writing/dialogue which is basically why I cant get through 99% of anime.
In the article he talks about how subjective taste is, that's totally fair, my point is anime fans understand that the writing is campy and accept it for what it is, that's part of the shonen genre. Saying you can tolerate it is different from saying it's not bad. I hate the writing in jrpgs, but I may actually try Dragon Quest 11 or FF7 because tim rodgers described how he enjoys the games ironically and how they are almost a relaxing experience because you don't have to think while you play them. imo that makes more sense than 'stfu Forspoken is actually good cacs just hate it' 'I would say the same shyt' I wouldn't! lmao I'm from nyc and I would be absolutely amazed, the writers don't understand nuance enough to be selective with when she should be sarcastic.
Which is precisely part of the point.
Who cares what it sounds like? It's a good point about the writing in modern movies and games, do you think the people who make art aren't having these same discussions? Without people like Austin games would still be about knocking a ball back and forth.
