People are so scared to be called rapists on the internet they don't want to voice anything that only a moron could misconstrue with supporting rape. Sad times.
Here's my thing; when people wait to speak out it IS problematic. It does not help the situation. The excuses for the silence are, "no one will believe me," "the shame and embarrassment," "the trauma."
I get it. I do. At the same time what does waiting 15 years do? You're not going to be believed by an even wider audience. The statute of limitations has likely run out so there won't be any justice. If the trauma and shame had subsided in those recent years it's now going to be front and center becasue you are reliving a nightmare and now it's in the public eye. And worst yet; your predator is now someone else's monster. The increase in victims emboldens these pieces of shyt to commit more crimes and up the severity. Rape is a serious issue. So serious that we are taught to never question accusations due to the additional trauma it can cause. Fine. But why would ANYONE want someone else to experience that trauma if there is even a chance it can be prevented?
And if these people are serial predators name names. I understand children keeping silent but if you're going to get on Twitter to tell your story and you can't even get legal justice at least name your accuser and provide some strong evidence. Especially if it's industry wide. Lives can be saved here.
It's fairly obvious from the jump what it was. People with money and power using it to stay on top of those who don't have it. It's no longer working anymore. Stories are coming out everyday about certain behaviors from the Weinsteins in what turned out to be a blacklisting effort. They refuse to let directors cast certain people and planted stories throughout the industry about them being difficult to work with so others wouldn't hire them. So if they can blacklist you, what makes people think they can't silence you or your legal team as well?
Money and Power kept these women silent, and in any industry where you're battling against billionaires, that seems to be the case up until recently where we're seeing Kevin Spacey removed from everything, Russell Simmons stepping back form everything, Harvey Weinstein stepping down, Louis CK falling all the way back, Matt Lauer getting canned, etc. Now it seems like an accusation can sink a ship, when before it'd simply get your own career fukked.
The landscape is different now if you've been assaulted. There is a witch hunt going on and these powerful folks with money aren't gonna be able to use it to silence their accusers.
