deeply depressing
whats even more depressing is that it sounds like religion is what may have caused him to feel comfortable and content doing this (I don't know all the details of what happened or his reasons why, but i mean that in the same sense that the 911 hijackers probably would have reconsidered if they didn't believe they'd immediately pop up somewhere in another dimension in paradise)
and he sounded pretty certain of whats next, which probably made him feel better about it
but had he been an atheist he'd probably be less likely to take the only life he's got. He's not watching over anyone now, nor is he in hell or heaven. Just back wherever he was before he was born.
Atheists kill themselves every day, comforted by the thought that after this life there's nothing. No pain, no suffering, just....nothing. I generally lean more atheist than agnostic and even I can see this bullshyt you're saying is nonsense.
There are a lot of conversations to be had about religion - especially Christianity - being an insidiously destructive force in the black community but this isn't one of them. When it comes to shyt like mental health, more specifically depression and suicidal ideation, religion has actually proven to have a moderate role in swaying people NOT to kill themselves.
And using 911 hijackers as a checkmate that somehow proves religion leads to suicide is beyond ridiculous... jihadists and people killing themselves in the midst of commit a terror attack and killing others are not the same as people who kill themselves due to depression or mental health issues. Saying anything otherwise is disingenuous. The 911 guys were more akin to Japanese pilots flying Kamakazi missions than shooting yourself in the head due to personal issues.
