CTE/Brain Damage. Plus the BAD side of wrestling; shytty low paying jobs when not working, chronic injuries, no longer hearing the crowd cheer/boo you.
It's not like wrestlers from the 60s, 70s were dying. Back when a heart punch or a vertical suplex could be sold as a finisher.

But marks got into the business and started hurting each other for real, for audiences who know it's choreographed, until now you have dudes hitting each other with light tubes and taking upteenth chair shots to the face.

I know I sound like Jim Cornette, but damn when you see how the wrestling hustle used to work for everybody in multiple territories, and now it's only for a select bodybuilder types at the WWE while the rest sacrifice their bodies for peanuts in muddy cornfield deathmatches - it's hard to argue with him.

Cornette is right about Keyfabe/Wrestling Show Psychology, just he still believes in Clean Cut Face and Heel; its outdated.

But brehs are doing risky shyt in the Indys to draw a crowd. Sad but true.
