WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WBTV) - Former Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson’s Chief of Staff, Krishana Polite, was shot in the neck while leaving a New Year’s Eve church service.
Polite made history as the first Black woman in the position in North Carolina history. She was named to the position days after several top staffers of Robinson’s campaign for governor resigned. CNN had published an article containing several damaging statements allegedly made by Robinson before he took office related to slavery, peeping, Nazis, and transgender pornography. Robinson has since refuted the comments and filed a lawsuit.
Winston-Salem police confirmed the shooting happened shortly after midnight on Jan. 1 at St. Peter’s Church & World Outreach Center.
Polite was taken to an area hospital in critical but stable condition, according to officers. No arrests have been made and police say the investigation is still active.
A GoFundMe was created to help with medical expenses.
