the plates come off!...lemme find out I shoulda read the instructions...I stopped usin it cuz it was too much work to cook a couple burgers,I would go 5 times without cleaning it takin salmonela risk...I know a few people that don't take the plates off tho,so either nobody reads the direction and knows or the older models don't have the removable plates....they make it look so easy to clean on the infocmercial
