But as soon as Tommy Hilfiger said he didn't make his clothes for black people, nikkas stopped wearing Tommy damn near overnight. Theres a reason why Ralph will never be played out with people of all races yet Tommy Hillfiger is looked at as a mid 90's thing. And then Phat Farm, Fubu, Maurice Malone, Enyce, Sean John etc. took over black fashion in the late 90's. When I was in high school, nikkas wore mostly urban fashion. The only non-black owned high fashion brands that were popular were Iceberg and Coogi. Other non-black owned brands literally depended on black dollars like Avirex and Girbaud. Which is why both Avirex and Girbaud died out once nikkas stopped wearing that shyt. The main difference is Gucci don't need black money.
Imagine if Pelle Pelle came out with a Sambo leather for black history month, Pelle Pelle would be out of business by September because black folks in NYC, Detroit and Chicago are the main people lining their pockets. I haven't seen a white man wear a Pelle since Ted Danson on Cheers or Shawn Michaels back in 1995.
Gucci is made for and by rich gay Eurocacs. You know Soulja Boy wearing that tired ass Gucci headband was the last straw.
Gucci saw that Breakfast Club interview and was like
. "We need to take desperate measures here"
"fukk, these nikkas have turned Gucci into Pure Playaz"
. Wouldn't be the first time Soulja Boy killed a fashion trend. Big Draco single handedly killed the Bathing Ape Bapesta in 07'. Them things still can't make a comeback after that.
