Like I mentioned in the Cotto/Canelo negotiation thread, Cotto is Floyd's plan B. Also, Cotto hasn't finalized anything with Top Rank, much less Canelo. He's keeping all his options open. Ultimately I think he'll choose Canelo, but you never know.
Me either! I still consider the Cotto fight Floyds toughest bout. And that was a younger Floyd mind you against a no Freddie Roach Cotto. Bottom line- the Cotto that destroyed Martinez devastates the Floyd that fought Maidana in the rematch. That C, C- performance (as Floyd called it himself in the post fight interview) takes an L against Cotto.

Cotto's Adviser: Canelo Talks About "50%" Complete

Gaby Peñagarícano, legal adviser to WBC middleweight champion (39-4, 32KOs), has already denied that a deal is complete for a May 2nd showdown with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs).
If he had to place a percentage on the progress of their negotiations, Peñagarícano says their discussions are around 50% complete. He says the financial terms have not been agreed upon and they haven't reached the point of actually drafting any preliminary agreements to review.
"Yes we are discussing things and we are working on, but under no position is there an agreement or anything signed. There is not even any drafts [of contracts]," Peñagarícano told ESPN Deportes. "I would say [the negotiations] are around 50% [complete], because obviously one of the most important aspects of any fight, and certainly at this high level of boxing - there are many components - but one of the most important is the financial and the economic, and because that is not agreed upon I can not give you more than 50 percent [in terms of how far along we are in the negotiations]."
Cotto Adviser - Floyd Offer To Cotto For Rematch Is "Not True"
Gaby Penagaricano, an advisor to Miguel Cotto, who is the pound for pound top negotiator in the boxing business, checked in with TSS for a quickie update on the ongoing talks between Teams Cotto and Canelo for a proposed Super Fight between the Puerto Rican fight icon and the red-headed rumbler from Mexico.</p>
I asked for a reaction to this Oscar De La Hoya Tweet from Sunday.
"We are still discussing the fight," Penagaricano responded. "No agreement."
And what of that rumor bopping around the Twittersphere, that Team Mayweather has offered Cotto a $40 million guarantee to sign for a rematch with "Money." It looks to me like that nugget came forth from an entity called "Mr. Boxing PR"...
So, true? False? Furiously false?
"No truth to the rumor as to the offer for Floyd Mayweather rematch," Penagaricano told me.
There you have it, friends. Now, here's hoping these power brokers sip some Champagne together, get into a spirit of resolution, find common ground, and cement this legit Puerto Rico vs. Mexico Super Fight before the ghost of dikk Clark rises to do the ball drop countdown...That would help get the Year in Boxing 2015 off to a swell start, no?

Another thing to look at is manny and cotto being cool with each other.
As in cotto taking the fight for canelo to force Floyd's hand to take the fight with manny.

If this isn't a classic case of "if you can't beat em, join em."
