Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is firing back at a recent interview conducted by WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. , who claimed the veteran promoter was the biggest obstacle in making a mega-fight with WBO champion Manny Pacquiao. The fight is being negotiated for May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Arum says his company, and Pacquiao, have agreed to every term requested by Mayweather - and he adds that CBS president Leslie Moonves and HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler are also on board.
The fight negotiations are currently stalled and not many are expecting the match to happen. Arum is frustrated with the way the negotiations have played out, but he does not place the blame on manager Al Haymon or Showtime Sports VP Stephen Espinoza.
According to Arum, the only man to blame, for the inability of both sides to finalize deal, is Mayweather himself. Arum says everyone involved in the deal is waiting on Mayweather to rubberstamp the agreed upon terms.
"This is something that is totally strange. There is one guy to blame. And that's Floyd Mayweather. Everybody involved wants this fight, just like the fans. We've signed off on every point. We've agreed to everything. But push comes to shove, there's one guy to blame," Arum told The Denver Post.
