I cant blame Joe at all for the hate. It was bigger than a fight. Frazier gave him money while he was banned. Then he goes and does that shyt. Ali's antics laid the foundation for how most blacks believed and acted.
Frazier held it because Ali never apologized to him personally. His own people turned on him, and for what?
Ali: "Joe Frazier is an Uncle Tom. He works for the enemy."
Ali: "Joe Frazier should give his face to the Wildlife Fund. He's so ugly, blind men go the other way. Ugly! Ugly! Ugly! He not only looks bad, you can smell him in another country! What will the people of Manila think? That black brothers are animals. Ignorant. Stupid. Ugly and smelly."
Ali: "He's the other type Negro, he's not like me," Ali shouts to the now stunned white interviewer. "There are two types of slaves, Joe Frazier's worse than you to me … That's what I mean when I say Uncle Tom, I mean he's a brother, one day he might be like me, but for now he works for the enemy"
i aint mad at joe for bein mad even if him taking joy in Alis current state and saying he deserves it is a lil demented for somebody who wants another person to be punished for they words....i think Joe held on to it out of jealousy and bitterness a lil bit too though, and held on to the idea that Alis comments as the reason why he didnt get all the fame and accolades he felt he deserved....fact is he was just great in what was Ali's era, just like cats that was great in Jordans era still live in his shadow....dudes was bigger than the sport.
But nikkas saying ALi should never be forgiven by black people sound ridiculous..especially if black people blindly followed ALi and was callin him a uncle tom,and then ignored the apologys and respect given to Frazier after the fight...i think ALi was just in the moment and didnt see the impact of his words in that moment while he's selling the fight.....to bring it back to hiphop it sounds similar to the nikkas involved in the east vs west shyt....hindsight is 20/20
