Yes I agree without the public option the teeth of that act are gone but he set a foundation and thats more than any President in history. Keep in mind the Republicans forced him to cut the public option out. Obama may be able to make that provision in the future but it is still better than what we got.

I don't know about that. He couldn't get Max Baucus and Ben Nelson on board for a public option and the word from internal sources is Obama never really tried for a public option. He put on a public front for his base, but he was assuring insurance companies behind closed doors that there wouldn't be a public option the whole time.

Actually, if you look at the progression of the debate a few years ago, you find people like Rahm Emmanuel telling people to "ignore the progressives" on this issue. And because of Obama's alliances (especially in regard to IP. A cursory look at the Office of the US Trade Rep's Special 301 Reports and the whole ACTA debate of the time could've told you everything you needed to know about how that bill was going to come out), there was really no hope of a public option coming through.

If I remember correctly, Bernie Sanders actually had a single payer option bill drafted, which got scuttled immediately. Naturally, his "progressive" caucusmates did nothing to support him.

Yea, the false narrative around here is that the Republicans forced the hand of the President to abandon a public option. This was NEVER the case. The Single payer/P.O. was left aside by the Democrats.
