Robinson is one of the sons of Abdul Karim Robinson, 44, who was among the city’s most notorious drug dealers in the 1990s. Police linked the elder Robinson to at least three deaths, but he was never charged in two and the charges were dropped in the third.

The elder Robinson and another known drug dealer Derrick “Smiley” Smith, were arrested on drug charges in 1999 and, seeking to have their sentences reduced, eventually became key witnesses against a band of rogue Jacksonville police officers who were tipping them off to drug investigations.

Those cops were convicted in one of the biggest trials in Jacksonville history. They included Karl Waldon, convicted of robbing and killing convenience store owner Sami Safar, and now serving a life sentence.

Robinson, released from prison in 2009, also is the father of Malik Abdul Khalid Robinson, 18, who was arrested this month and charged with the March shooting of a 16-year-old in Jacksonville Beach. That Robinson spent weeks using social media to dare police to catch him.
