I can almost GUARANTEE that @BrothaZay didn't come up with the arguments in the O/P. Not calling the kid dumb, but I think its safe to say that some of these observations are............"beyond him"

When John Amos left the show after failed contract negotiations, he said this about JJ’s character: “The writers would prefer to put a chicken hat on J.J. and have him prance around saying “DY-NO-MITE”, and that way they could waste a few minutes and not have to write meaningful dialogue.”
John Amos maintains that the reason he was considered a "disruptive factor" by Norman Lear was because he objected to the negative stereotypes of African Americans that the show constantly presented.
Anyone remember the Good Times episode with the Atheist and how Florida reacted ?
Same shyt happened on Fresh Prince of Bel AirThis portrayal of their characters is why the actors who played Florida and James hated the show (The dad became fed up with the scripts and bounced). As JJ became the breakout star the other characters were treated as afterthoughts, with the parents especially depicted as incompetent fools. Both actors were very bitter about the show....same thing happened with family matters, where the show was created as an ensemble piece centered around the Winslow family, but quickly became 'the urkel show'.
Its crazy how they were posed to be the head of the house, and show how life was in the ghetto, with parents struggling to raise their kids right. But reading between the lines, parents like Florida and James are part of the reason why kids turn out the way they do and the ghetto doesnt change
Lets evalute both their characters.
James:
-Verbally abusive
-Beats his kids
-Throws chairs against the wall and breaks them
-Threatens everybody including females
-Hits kids that aren't his
I couldnt even imagine how atrocious Florida Evans breath must have been...
