Another developer suggested that he hire a PR team to handle communication. He has a goldmine a redhot, free app that he doesn't even have to update or anything... Most of the game's popularity is due to the fact that it's broken... drawing more money in a day than most people make in a year.

Dude wasn't ready for that dog eat dog world more commonly known as the indie developer circle. People ripping off old games or flat out stealing ideas, get away with it because even though you stole everything, there's no decent copyright law to protect the original makers' ideas. Then try to sue everyone who tries to do the same to you. Success may vary depending on how blatantly you stole ideas.

I bet this guy knew the lawsuits were coming (or was already seeing some cease & desist letters) and dropped out early hoping that the money he made so far will remain his.
