And why wouldnt he?

He knows the last 3 movies he did were trash...

He knows Abrams knows what he's doing....

Lucas has said in the deal he put stipulations that Disney can't change as far as characters and story that's why his and Spielberg girl Kathleen Kennedy is in charge. She basically Lucas's mouthpiece while he's retired. Lucas did the story outline for the whole trilogy. There's no way he would change's Luke's character that drastically after everything he learned from Yoda and Obi as well as what he saw happen to his own dad. It would completely destroy the story of the original trilogy. People speculating that in my view are off base. If it happens, it happens but as a lifelong Star Wars fan I will not be happy. And there would be TONS of fans furious with the movie.

Who cares...if its a good storyline I'm happy...truth is...the ONLY good thing about the last 3 Films was darth Maul and thats sad considering he was a minor character.

These films going forward need a fresh take and need surprises and twists....its been 30 years....alot could have happened to Luke in that time

I care cause it goes against EVERYTHING Luke went through and was taught in the OT. I'm far to invested in Luke's story for them to pull a horrible curveball like that. If you thought the Prequels got hate, you've seen nothing if they do that to Luke, Star Wars fans are already complaining and it's just a rumor. I don't think it's true. JJ has a long history of leaking fake information to throw people off, he calls it "The Mystery Box". Anyways, I just want to see the original cast one last time, I honestly feel the saga is over. I'm just hoping JJ does it justice.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, though. The most tragic madmen are the ones who do start out doing it for the Good of Mankind (or Alienkind, or whatever). How wack would Star Wars be if Kasdan hadn't turned Lucas' original story on its head and made Vader Anakin? Absolute falls come before absolute redemption, though.

With the right touch, it would supercede Empires Strikes Back. JJ ain't the person to do something that deep, though. It'll be what it will be, popcorn entertainment which will satisfy millions. But it won't be that something special making folks go 'damn' twenty years later.
