How About The Players Vote On The Starters And The Coaches Vote For The Bench?

No because the bottom line is the allstar game is for the fans . they generally do a solid job .

Well, it’s not like there’s some collective “conference call” amongst fans to arrive at a consensus on who most deserves All-Star recognition.

Just like on this board, you’re going to have a lot of fans with highly uninformed opinions. Since it’s impossible to gauge exactly who those fans are, the vote should be taken away from the fans entirely.

For instance….an INFORMED fan would know that both Bynum and Amare aren’t deserving of votes. I mean shyt, if you don’t know AT THE VERY LEAST that two nikkas you want on the team ain’t even PLAYED this year, you’re not responsible enough to wield the damn vote.

Why should fans vote for who DESERVES to be there as opposed to who they WANT to see there? That's the whole point of a fan vote - putting in the guys YOU want to see in an All Star Game. It's a fan's game.

Deserving players get recognized with the All NBA votes/MVP votes/ROY/6th Man/etc./etc./etc.

What difference would it make?

The same people would still be bytching about so-and-so making it over so-and-so. It'd be the same with an all coaches vote or whatever.

I wanna see Lin in the All Star Game because it'll guarantee everyone in the East plays 100% because everyone plays harder against Jeremy because he's Asian.

I guess my response to that would be that, if we let the fans decide who they WANT instead of who deserves it, then at that point it’s not really an All-Star Game so to speak. It’s a glorified pickup game (well, it’s almost that ANYWAY, but still….)

IMO, if they’re gonna let the fans vote, they SHOULD do it your way. Just don’t call it an All-Star Game, call it a Fan Appreciation Game….yunno?

Difference being, I guess, that labeling it “All-Star” invokes notions of cats being "deserving” (to me, at least)….and I thought that’s what it was about anyway. I think, doing it your way, it becomes even more of a popularity contest than it already is....

I mean, look at it the way it is....the fans got Amare and Bynum in there, neither of whom likely will be able to play (well, mebbe Amare).....again, if the fans are voting for who they want to see vs. who "deserves" it, AT LEAST know that the ma'fukkas you wanna see are AVAILABLE/ABLE to play, yunno? Fans voting Amare and Bynum in there is just fukkin' lazy all around....and to me, that shows that they're irresponsible with the vote.

Problem with that is I'm pretty sure player contracts still have ASG bonuses, can't have players voting to get their boys extra dough or worse not voting for people they don't like to screw him over.
