Without the demon angle he's kind of just there. Doesn't have anything really interesting behind his character besides randomly chasing belts. He just needs to do something more interesting with his character if he's not gonna do the Demon anymore. That's another blunder is treating the demon thing like a second character that shows up at pay per views when he's really angry....like the hulk to his Bruce Banner

from a booking standpoint you now have to keep that second character undefeated because the mystique is gone soon as they lose bit that also spoils the winner most of the time

That's totally how it was. Balor as NXT Champion fukking sucked. A year of underwhelming matches of nothingness. He only defended against Joe and was barely on TV, just holding up the brand from doing anything interesting. I'll taking smiling babyface who wants to have fun, Maggle, over his completely blank slate that was his NXT "character". Which you might recall was 100% "YOU MIGHT KNOW HIM FROM THE INDIES/JAPAN". At least now he has a reason to be in his position and have a connection with the audience beyond the NXT push to the top of anyone with an outside name.
