FF8 was my first Final Fantasy game, so it will always hold as special place in my heart. Breaking the game actually makes it more fun, playing through it normally is boring. (Try doing a low level game, where you try to level up as little as possible. It's fun as fück.)
There's nothing like getting Squall's ultimate weapon on Disc 1 and dog-walking every boss up to and including Omega Weapon.
Didn't play OG FF7 until a couple months ago. I get why people were losing their minds at the time but I was playing the game like
Not saying it wasn't good--it was--but after playing a bunch of games inspired by it, playing FF7 felt like hustling backwards.
Played FF9 earlier this year and liked it. Probably the best battle system of the PS1 era. Story was much darker than I expected.
Vivi is the GOAT.
My favorite FF overall of the ones I've played is definitely FFX.

Grinding is actually fun
The only thing I mostly didn't fück with are some of the Celestial Weapons and Dark Aeons. Fück I look like dodging 200 lightning bolts
Plus if you know what you're doing, you can customize four-slot weapons into Celestial Weapon equivalents or better (they just can't ignore defense).
