Its a mix of many things.

Most people had no hope for it to turn out good. It was in development hell for something like 20 years, was so long in post-production people forgot about it, Miller had not done action for 30 years and so on.

I feel the ending was the weakest part and kind of predictable. Until then it was fantastic.
