And really the artsy, independent movie making I see people clamoring to return to theaters ain't happening. Streaming ate their market before the pandemic. If you like character development, multiple themes, not a lot of special effects why would you go pay for a movie in a theater over watching a similar one at home or better yet watching a series that's 8-13 hours longer and lends to more complex story telling? The majority won't.

Theaters and studios are in trouble as long as the business model is "pack as many people in as possible for each viewing".

I don't think movie theaters will go away completely, you'll have film festivals and blockbusters for big screens for years to come.

But I said this in another thread, this year is going to hurt that business model bad. Some of these movie chains will go bust, the demand for movie theaters after the streaming revolution compounded with a pandemic will be diminished. It won't go back to the way it was.

I've been going to the cinema repeatedly since June and will continue to do so. So will many others. Theaters only in trouble now because capacity is limited and all big movies are pushed back so most folks are just waiting for things to get better.
You sound like those brehs in the booth that think an artist is popping because they hear them on their block

I'm indifferent

I was only going to theaters for Blockbusters anyway.

I been stopped going to the theaters to see these low budget "streaming level" type movies. Barring it was from an actor that I like to support

Also we get more dramas, paltry horror movies, tear jerkers, Rom Coms, Silly Comedy, and indie movies every year than Comic Book movies. I dont get why some complain about the comic book movies:dwillhuh:

Yeah, for me to see a comedy or drama in the theater my interest had to be like 10/10. Otherwise, I'm waiting the few months for it to hit cable/streaming.
I can see how horror movies still have theater interest but otherwise I want to see some high level FX/visually stunning shyt at the movie theater.

Yea the last smaller movie I believe I saw in the theater was BlacKKKlans Man.

I'm not going to the theater to see and pay for say Knives Out or Motherless Brooklyn

What are you talking about, breh? It's a simple business. Studios are pushing all their big films back until after Corona is under control and theaters get back. They do that because they pumped too much money into the film and can't afford to do Tenet or Mulan numbers. That alone tells you how much money is still made at the box office.

Once theaters reopen fully and one or two of these films become proper hits it will reboost confidence in the theatrical experience.

All theaters have to do until then is survive and that is the big challenge.

Theaters are open where I live but no one is going. I wonder how things would have gone if say Wonder Women or a quiet place 2 or something opened instead of Twnet. But I fear many chains won't survive or people will be used to not going by the time shyt returns to normal.

The bolded is a genuine possibility. People losing interest or no longer caring is not. Not as long as the theater remains the first opportunity to see a new film.
