Now Im not going back on the history of Pinoy Films which dates over a 100 years ago but this is directed at the last decade or less which has revamped the style and uniqueness to cinema. 2 films from the drama/action genre have sparked my interest in more Pinoy cinema. "On the Job" and "Metro Manila". Both films focus on the real struggle of the Philippines that border the lines of rich and poor, the innocent and the guilty, social and political avenues. Both films capture 3-d characters with real problems, real struggles and real life making decisions. Both films are shot very good in cinematography and provide real backdrops of the world around them.

On the Job - A gritty crime-thriller about four men struggling to survive and a make living for themselves and their respective loved ones. Two are former prison inmates, hired as contract killers, and the two other are law enforcers and investigators, caught in the loop of corrupt government officials. Mario intends to go straight when he gets parole, and Daniel a younger inmate and Mario's apprentice, is set to replace him as hired killer. Joaquin and Francis are the police officers tangled in a moral conflict. The two groups inevitably collide...

Metro Manila- Seeking a brighter future in megacity Manila, Oscar Ramirez and his family flee their impoverished life in the rice fields of the northern Philippines. But the sweltering capital's bustling intensity quickly overwhelms them, and they fall prey to the rampant manipulations of its hardened locals. Oscar catches a lucky break when he's offered steady work for an armored truck company and gregarious senior officer Ong takes him under his wing. Soon, though, the reality of his work's mortality rate and the murky motives of his new partner force Oscar to confront the perils he faces in his new job and life...

Philippines had a golden era in the 70's but fell off after that but it's been picking back up with some exciting filmmakers and actors.
word after the marcos era the country went down hill..not praising marcos at all..just being real with their infrastructure etc.
i love the 70's pinoy movie scene..some funky martial art flicks and birth of weng weng!!

Lav Diaz is the best working filmmaker in the world today. Anything he's released, watch it. Some of the most rewarding and enriching films I've ever seen.
