:patrice: We will be fair and acknowledge that he was taking part in criminal activity should it be proven right?

This seems to be spinning into a 'he was shot while minding hid own business' situation, when the details are not all clear yet.

if he wasn't taking part in criminal activity at the time of the crime, and it appears he wasn't, it doesn't matter if he was a criminal.

the story the police is running with is absolute bullshyt and there are tons of witnesses that are telling the same exact story, a story much different than what the police say happened.

I clearly stated "should it be proven" and made no assertions either way.

*sigh* whatever, I'll play the part.

So what your saying is no you want be fair and that you going to perpetuate a pro crime mentality? Progress :snoop:

The question isn't whether he did anything illegal, it's whether the cops were justified in mowing down an unarmed teen (with an M-16) who by most accounts had his hands up and was not a threat to anyone. But let's go ahead with the victim blaming.

I'm sure if he stole a candy bar or jaywalked or something, that would justify the cops' actions. :stopitslime:

So what if they did?
When a peaceful vigil turns into a riot, anything goes. Lets take a trip to the 60s.
So does the legitimacy of the protest...

I'm in Canada and all you see on the news is nikkaz walking out the liquor store with bottles so you tell me if you think public perception and support is important in instances like this. This ain't Katrina survival looting this is just in bad taste and damaging to the overall cause.

Like I said, take a trip to the 60's. was every protest that ended the same way not legitimate? Did striking workers back in the 1900's not have legitimate claims because those ended in violence?
Or did it depend on who 'escalated' it? Or whom is protesting?

But I forgot, its 2014, public perception is everything, too bad the public assumes the worse no matter what or how blacks conduct themselves.

I'm not speaking out against the rioting or destruction but looting. You can't justify stealing liquor in honour of a dead teen there is absolutely no redeeming quality in those actions. If anything the looters are taking advantage of a just cause for their own selfish wants.

Very much true, this happens a lot.
But does those 'looters' make a protest or vigil illegitimate? They aren't a majority, as much as the media would love for you to believe. Especially if minorities are involved.
