We aren't American fam, not when it really matters at least.
Exactly. My family, Mexican, had a discussion on how we all identify ourselves. Since a couple of my cousins became military dudes, they started calling themselves americans even though before they were all calling themselves Chicanos or Mexicans. They asked me, I said, "Mexican". They asked why. Because when people see me, they don't see American even though I speak perfect english. I'm always the Mexican guy like every other Brown man is. Doesn't bother me because that's exactly what I am. I grew up eating Mexican food, watching Mexican tv and practicing Mexican traditions in a Mexican home. Since the 7th grade, when I began to be more cognizant of the history of this country and hearing "the land of the free, home of the brave", I just felt it was all a lie. You don't see me, a Brown man and think "America". You see a Mexican. And I'm glad, because that exactly who I am. Chicano is just as fine. I can go through all types of history on my people, but that's for another thread.
