Black economic empowerment is the foundation of every strong community, city, and nation on this planet. If you remember back during the financial crisis of 2008, you had US congressmen saying the greatest threat to national security in America is the national debt.
Right now black America is in the condition it's in because it can't defend itself from white aggression. Whites are allowed to come into our communities and do anything they want with impunity because we don't have any power, even in the cities in which we live. If we had an economic base of our own we can fund our own militias to defend our cities, we can support black politicians on a local level to ensure laws are passed that are for our best interests (like police and jurors HAVE to be from the city in which they're serving in), and we can have our own schools where we educate our own children.
Those elected officials (like the district attorney and judges for example) would operate under the notion that if they didn't work on behalf of the community they serve, they would be immediately replaced. They would prosecute the police that committed crimes against black people. The politicians would appoint other black officials (the police chief for example) to make sure that they served and benefited the community in which we lived.
In this country money = power. We have no money and what shyt like ferguson shows is we have no power either. We've had communities in the past that had economic power, but they were destroyed because they didn't have military power to defend themselves from their enemies.
A lot of the shyt that's going in America we're partially to blame. As Claude Anderson always says, our inappropriate behavior is the problem. Until we change our behavior, we'll never progress.

ETA: the group that took the Williamsburg Bridge was initially part of the same Union Square group but the police were trying to herd us one way so we would avoid the FDR. There was a lot of confusion and a big group ended up going another way. Glad to hear they made it to the bridge.
