Open carry/firearm walk scheduled for Saturday afternoon in downtown St. Louis

ST. LOUIS • A St. Louis Open Carry/Firearm Education Walk is scheduled to take place in downtown St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.

Participants are asked to openly carry slung long guns and holstered pistols in an effort to “raise awareness of the right to keep and bear arms under the Federal and Missouri State Constitutions.”

In August, Missouri voters passed Amendment 5, which strengthened the state's gun laws, making it an “unalienable” right for citizens to bear arms.

The walk starts at 1 p.m., starting at downtown's Citygarden and Gateway Mall and continue to the Arch grounds, then will return to Citygarden and the Gateway Mall area.

Organizer Jeffry Smith, a gun activist from Ohio, encourages and welcomes children to the event but discourages “Don't Tread On Me” flags and clothing, camouflage wear, and “grungy clothes” at home. “This is an educational walk,” he writes in a Facebook event page, “not a militia gathering.”

About 100 people had responded by Monday night that they were attending.

"not a militia gathering" my ass...:hmm::smh:

Get ready. They are definitely setting the stage to not only let this cac walk, but to discredit the "protesters" and turn public opinion against them. The only problem with that is, the public = cacs. We know cacs think Darren is innocent, so they can leak as many lies from the Grand Jury as they please. It won't change a thing and this will only heat up. :shaq2:

Nasheed stood with her lawyer, Eric Vickers, and protest leader Anthony Shahid as she spoke to reporters in the St. Ann police parking lot.

Nasheed spent the night in the St. Ann jail through an agreement with Ferguson, which is renovating its own jail. St. Ann Police Chief Aaron Jimenez told reporters that Ferguson officers asked his department to give Nasheed a breathalyzer test, but she declined.

Ferguson Chief Thomas Jackson said Nasheed had a 9 mm handgun in her possession when she was arrested. Nasheed, who says she has a concealed carry permit, told the Post-Dispatch she always carries her gun.

She said she doesn't know why officers asked to give her a breath test for alcohol and said she was not intoxicated.

Nasheed called the release of information about her gun and the breath test request "character assassination" and said she doesn't trust Ferguson police.
