SAVANNAH, Ga. —
A deadly officer-involved shooting has prompted a heavy police presence in Savannah Thursday, according to our partners at
WJCL-TV.
An estimated 150 people gathered at the scene of the shooting in the area of Augusta Avenue in west Savannah around 1:30 p.m. Reporters at the scene say the city’s mayor and police chief have also responded to the area.
A Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson said several blocks in the area have been cordoned off to the public.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to take the lead in the investigation.
Officials have not released the circumstances that led to the shooting.
