A person beating their kids does work sometimes, it's only bad when they take it too far. There's no need to get out the belt for every little thing, which I know there's many black parents that tend to do that. But having a good balance is okay when they do something really out of line, a good whoopin' should teach them a lesson. They'll actually think before doing it again. Face it, yelling, grounding and time out just doesn't work for a lot of kids. Kids can test their parents to the breaking point, there's even some parents that are so stressed out they just want to up and leave.

You just can't overdue it because then the kid will get desensitized. If whuppins are done properly then only a look is necessary and the child will straighten up.

I think it's also good to talk to the child before and after to make sure they understand what they're being punished for. Otherwise it defeats the purpose.

And I would never whup a kid while angry.

Good thing I got good kids though. You do that by ignoring the bad and positively reinforcing the good. Kids just want attention and if you give it to them when they're bad and ignore them when theyre good, they'll keep being bad because that's what gets the attention.

Based on personal observation the kids I know for a fact that have gotten spankings paired with a talk turned out to be fantastic, including myself. I have a great career, and many talents. I'm not damaged at all. There is a very wrong way to spank and a productive way of spanking. A wikihow is not a suitable source. Your other sources were very acceptable. Wikihow is not.
