btw are there good hints, lead up to this? or is it like some Thrax bullshyt
It's nowhere near as bad as Thrax. It's not super built up, but they do plant seeds for it, especially in the second season. I don't know if you've seen any of Beast Morphers at all, so there's a lot of spoilers below.
Andrew Liang, the voice actor for Venjix in RPM, voices Evox in Beast Morphers, but his voice is distorted and he's credited under the pseudonym 'Randall Ewing.' After the reveal, his voice sounds more like Venjix and he's credited under his real name.
At the end of season one, Evox took over Mayor Daniels's (the red ranger Devon's father) body. In season two, Devon goes through ranger history to find a solution to save his father. He learns about Dr. K and how she dealt with a human/robot hybrid (Dillon) and contacts her. In that same episode, we see that Grid Battleforce has a vault where various old morphers and weapons are stored, notably the Cell Shift Morphers from RPM.
Later on, Evox comes up with a plan to infiltrate the Grid Battleforce headquarters by purposely getting captured by the rangers. In their attempt to destroy them, he escapes to the vault, where he grabs the Cell Shift Morphers from their case, specifically Scott Truman's (RPM red). At the end of RPM, Venjix was 'destroyed,' but Scott's morpher blinked red as Dr. K put them in a case, indicating he was still alive.
When the rangers find Evox, he is using the Cell Shift Morpher to regenerate himself. There he reveals that he was actually Venjix all along, or rather a piece of Venjix. Nate (Gold ranger) was experimenting with old morpher tech as a kid, and nothing worked until he combined the old Cell Shift Morpher with Morph-X and Snake DNA. When he did that, he recreated the Venjix virus as Evox, who laid low until Grid Battleforce created the Morph-X towers.
Nate freaks out because Evox was just a fragmented version of the Venjix virus, but now he has the full power. So the red and yellow rangers contact Dr. K again, who shows up in their dimension to pep Nate up (since they both created sentient viruses intended to take over the world) and devise a plan.
After the final battle with Evox/Venjix, the show skips ahead one year, where Scrozzle, one of the Evox's henchmen is brought back to Grid Battleforce headquarters by Colonel Truman from RPM, who tells Devon, now promoted to Commander, that Scrozzle had been hiding in Corinth after Evox/Venjix's defeat.
