Yeah, because hundreds of millions are murdering their children due to following the teachings in the Bible. There is simply not a way to spank your children without murdering them.

What I am saying is that the actual book and "words of God" are flawed and ambiguous. It allows for a multiple range of interpretations.
Here is the text:
He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.
Now, a Christian with some common sense might say "Damn, that's a 5 month old acting like an infant does, maybe spanking him is not ethical and could lead to bodily harm and death." Most Christians I bet follow the line of reasoning.
The problem is the ones that take it literal like the man in question here. Is he wrong to take it literal? To you and I? Yes. To him? No.
What's my point?
At some point, Christians must diverge from the literal interpretation of the Bible and fill it in with their ethical beliefs. If you follow this argument to its logical conclusion, it is evident that man creates morality and ethics, and a deity has nothing to do with it.
