Fat Joe and 50 Cent had a lot of problems with each other during the aughts. But they buried all of that in 2012 after they came together to pay tribute to the late Chris Lighty.

Joe now considers 50 "family."

However, 50 may not be happy to hear what his family member had to say on yesterday's Everyday Struggle.

Joe forwarded the theory that it was 50 who "ruined" New York Hip Hop by fighting with everybody in the city who had turntables and a mic.

“[50 Cent] caused that [negative] energy ... Prior to that, New York Hip Hop got along," said Fat Joe. “That energy fukked up the New York vibe. It allowed everybody to get on some cocky shyt ... It was a bad time for New York Hip Hop."

Fat Joe certainly isn't the first person to suggest that it was 50's appetite for beef that ended New York's Hip Hop reign and pushed the game's epicenter down South

Hot 97's Ebro Darden is a big proponent of that theory, and 50 Cent has pushed back against him for it.

Do you think he'll have something to say about his bro Joe?

Joe starts talking Fif around 33:30.

I live in Detroit. I used to watch a public access show in Detroit. I saw Fat Joe rolling with about 20 Latin dudes with Gorrillas with sights around them on tall white tees(eventually I would come to find out it was KAR). All this was before piggy bank or me even knowing they had beef

Jadakiss 2nd album was full of 50 Cent disses

Nas did 50 kind of wrong.

50 reacted and did not start those beefs.

And like 50 said it’s no coincidence that him and Jay had the same beefs

Niqqas just got mad 50 wouldn’t let up and actually used his power and influence unlike Jay Z

the whole unity thing is overrated.

beefing purely on wax doesn't hinder anything. it becomes a hinderance when some rappers take it behind the curtain and to the administration realm.

50 did to some, but jay did it to more cats, so jay should be the poster-boy of the east coast's downfall. shoot, that was the root of a lot of jay's beefs.

its all about avenues & opportunity. if you take those away, then its pretty much impossible for new talent to flourish. that's what killed the east coast rap scene. now we have 40-50 year olds are at the forefront. the youngest star is meek, who is like 30 and had to get put on by the south.

NY was cocky long before 50, and dudes were getting too cool to chill together long before 50 too. But I will say there's no question 50 attempted to starve NY artists, using his influence/popularity to leverage media against multiple artists. That's certainly hurt the NY rap scene.

That being said even if 50 had been nice/peaceful the city would have still fallen off like it did. The reasons for NY's fall (clubs/cops pushing rap out, poor song writing skills, lack of melody, death of samples, etc) have nothing to do with Curtis...

Fat Joe is full of shyt.....

NYC was never on some big "one love" unity tip...

I grew up during the "Bridge Wars" between BDP vs The Juice Crew....

The division in NYC was so bad that you had the Radio stations beefing...

98.7 kiss (red & Chuck chillout) vs. Wbls (Magic & Marley Marl)

I remember Juice crew affiliates PHD had a radio drop that WBLS broadcasted that went like this:

"Yo this is MC Poet & Hot Day and when we ain't dissing somebody's FAT WIFE we listening to Mr. magic and Marley Marl! on 107.5 WBLS!"

Had me staring at my radio like :krs:

Cause we knew they were talking about Krs wife
tumblr_o5fjksd5tx1szbfero1_500.png

Shyt got uglier than a Master P sneaker back then :whew:

Cause you would go down the dial to 98.7 and Red Alert would play all these disses towards Marley and the Juice Crew

In this track which played alot on KISS FM he basically did a roll call of everyone in NYC he was cool with and everyone he wasn't cool with..

It was crazy in the 80s because Krs One was such a polarising figure at the time....

But he wasn't solely responsible for the tension in NYC either..

No artist can be fully responsible..

Run DMC was always being targeted by groups like de la soul and Ultramagnetic for simplistic and arrogant ....with Thier "KINGS FROM QUEENS" title

Thier was a time when they thought Krs was dissing them..on my philosophy

"KINGS lose crowns..but teachers stay intelligent"

Watch the video for Ultra mcees "Traveling at the Speed of Thought" were they diss damn there everybody EXCEPT Krs One :umad:

It was part of the Culture...as 50 said hip hop most distinctive aspect is being Competetive..and NYC artists always went hard when it came to competing

Only thing 50 cent is guilty of is making BEEF and diss records MARKETABLE

:manny:

And once he did that everyone in NYC followed the wave
