Let me preface this by saying that any suggestions I give is either from personal knowledge, experience or personal research I have done on my own. I am NOT a professional and most importantly you should always learn your own body and what works and doesn't work for you.

With that being said, fasted cardio, stop doing it brehs and brehettes if you are doing it for fat burn or weight loss.

What is fasted cardio-Cardio done on an EMPTY stomach.

Why do people do it?-The general thought is that you are burning fat cells because your body has nothing else to burn at that time.

The truth-First off lets realize that fat burning does NOT happen at the time cardio is being done. It happens roughly 2 hours after the completion of cardio. So when you are doing cardio on an empty stomach the body isn't going to use fat as energy, its going to use your muscle instead, which means you are going to lose muscle, which is likely 9 times out of 10 the one thing most people do not want to happen.

So there you have it brehs and brehettes. I highly suggest not doing fasted cardio. Lets clear this up though. Morning cardio is fine, but eat something before doing so that your body has fuel to burn and won't use your muscles. Unless you are ok with the muscle loss and your goal is to look scrawny then by all means continue the fasted cardio.

I researched this a while ago so I don't have the direct links where I got the info from but to help you out...

Let me google that for you

:lolbron:Not trying to be a dikk but the information is out there. Not sure what exactly you would consider reputable.

Anything peer reviewed.

Anyways, I think if you're doing HIIT + steady state for your cardio, you don't have to worry about muscle loss especially if you're strength training..

You don't have to worry as long as your body has something to use for muscle at the time. You void the body of fuel, and it's going to eat away from your muscles which start to take away any gains you make from strength training. Can't be scared to eat when you are attempting fat loss. Providing the body with the necessary fuel to do so is part of achieving fat loss.

I perform my best cardio fasted, but I need to have some food in me to lift. Different strokes for different folks, though.

Its not really about how your performance though, its about what your body is going to do during that time period. Its not going to burn any fat to use to provide you with energy to perform, its going to take muscle. If thats not much of a concern for you, and it may not be since you are a female, then by all means continue. If it works for you it works, general thought is, its not best to do so.

You mean like Men's Fitness or Muscle Magazine :russ:

Well, I guess the article I posted isn't really from a scientific journal but at least they cited some type of source. I tried google'ing fasted cardio and everything that came up was basically he said, she said...no one cited hard evidence to back up what they were talking about. I could probably look up articles through my university, but I don't really feel like it right now lol. I hear conflicting stuff about fitness everywhere, and pretty much just pick and choose what works for me. In this case, fasted cardio works for me.
