I can't understand the concept of blindlessly believing in anything without evidence. And that's all faith is to me.

There's an element of willful ignorance to it but I wouldn't outright call it stupidity. It's choosing to believe something that's improbable in the name of your deity. People who don't have faith can't hope to understand it, so don't bother trying.

Willful ignorance for god, or for fear of what would happen if you didn't believe? :lupe:
I think if you took out the concept of heaven and hell, That willful ignorance wouldn't exist.

I can understand your thought process. Is it not true that you have faith in many things in life though? I mean the elevator you ride has an inspection sticker on it but I doubt you saw the elevator operator inspect it. Yet you have faith it will take you safely to the top. All of history was told to by books and other people which you have not investigated yourself but you have faith someone did the research and that if you looked you could find it.

I know these aren't exact comparisons to religious faith but I think we all have some faith if not in a God maybe in yourself. Maybe you have faith you can do something even though you have no evidence prior to back that up. Or you have faith in someone else.

I think religious faith is something that is personal to you and you kinda "feel it"
I also would think if faith weren't in the equation there would also be no choice, because you would have no choice but to accept a certain faith because you know it to be true.

And choice at least in Christianity is a big part of it.

nikka it is 2013. mainstream churches don't even teach about hell anymore.

be real the average believer (in whatever) has faith because they are trying to survive their everyday life just like any other person is. faith these bills will get paid, faith a new job will come, faith their sickness will get better, faith that things are shytty now but will get better because of the multitude of things that go unseen, because that massive, unknowable underlying force (what some may call god) has set the universe in perfect order. what's so wrong with that?

i dont think anything is 'wrong' with it. yeah some people use religion as a coping mechanism for life but these are usually weak minded or mentally unstable people who do that for the most part.

as we move forward as a society we are gonna have to realize that we would be doing ourselves no favors to just pretend like this archaic way of thinking is normal and that way of thinking must be "protected and respected." when it comes down to it these people are just scared of reality and it frightens them to think they dont have this invisible being watching over them and protecting them.

and having faith and having trust are 2 way different things

My issue with it all is this.

Grandma used to tell me "If you take 1 step baby, God will take 2" RIP Gma. So basically if I tried at solving my issues, that god will assist me along the way to get me there. I think a lot of religious people will put all faith and 0 effort, which results in 0 result....and ending up with more prayer. Great cycle. :comeon:

Secondly, its a concept that detracts all humans involvement with human affairs. If you spend your whole life waiting on meeting Jeesus and not improving your world other than telling folk about meeting him too....how is that giving to your grandkids? :snoop:.

Slaves.

...Then it sounds like what you don't understand is the difference between "faith" and "blind faith".

Isn't faith blind by definition though? :lupe:

If you have evidence for the belief, then it's not really "faith" anymore.

these chrisitians are really clinging to the "blind faith" comment instead of giving a legit response to a valid point. and yeah how is your faith not blind?
